Vocal Coach/Pianist

Ugo Mahieux was born into an Italian/French family of artists in Napoli/Italy. Mr. Mahieux has studied piano at Napoli’s ‘San Pietro a Majella Music Conservatory’ and art history at the ‘Federico II University’.

He has studied harpsichord and baroque music at the ‘Centro di Musica Antica la Pietà dei Turchini’ in Italy with Antonio Florio. As an accompanist he has perfected his knowledge under the guidance of Robert Kettelson, Irène Kudela, Margaret Singer, and Enza Ferrari.

In 2008 he has entered the ‘Atelier Lyrique’ of the Paris National Opera as a young artist, where he started his career as music staff for main stage productions at the Palais Garnier and Opéra Bastille. Among many operas at the Paris Opéra he has performed the Didier Puntos version of L’enfant et les sortilèges, la Bohème, Orphée et Eurydice, Giulio Cesare…

 

As a recital partner he has appeared in concert venues as Auditorium du Louvre, Palais de l’Elysée, French Cultural Institute in London. Opéra de Marseille, Opéra de Toulon, Villa Medici in Rome, Hospices de Beaune, Dubai Expo 2020 Staatsoper in Stuttgart, among others.

 

Mr. Mahieux has been engaged as music staff at many other companies and festivals in Europe and the United States as Opéra de Paris, Theater an der Wien, Staatsoper Stuttgart, Riga National Opera, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Opéra de Lille, Théâtre du Châtelet, Opéra de Bordeaux, Spoleto Festival, Wildbad Rossini Festival, The Dallas Opera and Houston Grand Opera. During these engagements, Mr. Mahieux has worked with and coached celebrated artists, among others, Cecilia Bartoli, Natalie Dessay, Javier Camarena, Olga Borodina, Samuel Ramey, Lawrence Brawnlee, Angela Meade, Stephany Blyte, Elza van den Heever, Michael Spyres, Stéphanie D'Oustrac, Patrizia Ciofi, Sandrine Piau, Florian Sampey, Ludovic Tezier, Lawrence Zazzo…

 

As a pianist and harpsichordist, he has worked and performed under distinguished conductors such as Emmanuel Villaume, Bertrand De Billy, Giuliano Carella, Riccardo Frizza, Emmanuelle Haïm, Daniel Oren, Jean-Christophe Spinosi, Vlad Iftinca. Ugo Mahieux has accompanied master classes of famous singers such as Sherrill Milnes, Neil Shicoff, Raina Kabaivanska, Renato Bruson, Ann Murray and Luciana Serra. As a guest coach he was invited to companies and festivals such as Houston Grand Opera Studio, Staatsoper in Stuttgart, Mexico City Estudio de Opera Bellas Artes and SIVAM, Artescenica summer program (Mexico) Cantofest (Portugal) and Savannah Voice Experience. Recently he has prepared La Vestale at Theater an der Wien, Carmen, Trouble in Tahiti by Bernstein and Les enfants terribles by P. Glass at Staatsoper Stuttgart, Samson et Dalila, Falstaff, Carmen and La Bohème at Dallas Opera, La Favorite at Houston Grand Opera, Belisario and La Favorite by Donizetti at Bergamo’s Donizetti Festival, Roméo et Juliette by Gounod at Pfalztheater in Kaiserslautern (Germany), La Favorite at the Opéra de Bordeaux. Since October 2021 he has been teaching as vocal coach at the Stuttgart Opernschule and since December 2022 is coaching French and Italian repertoire at the Staatsoper Stuttgart. Upcoming projects include Les Dialogues des Carmelites at the Opernschule, Musik Hochschule in Stuttgart, Lucie de Lammermoor at the Donizetti Opera Festival in Bergamo and some collaborations with the world renowned French baritone Florian Sampey.
